It is the objective of the IEEE Benelux Chapter on Information Theory to connect people in the Benelux (Belgium, The Netherlands, and Luxembourg) that are interested in processing, transmission, storage, and use of information, as well as in theoretical and applied aspects of coding, communications, and communications networks. The Chapter cooperates closely with the Werkgemeenschap voor Informatie- en Communicatietheorie (WIC) and coordinates its activities and initiatives with those of the Werkgemeenschap.
The current board of the Benelux IT Chapter consists of:
Alex Alvarado
Jasper Goseling (Chair)
Hamdi Joudeh
Liesbet Van der Perre
Sofie Pollin (Treasurer)
Fons van der Sommen
Jos Weber (Secretary)
Peter H.N. de With (Vice-Chair)
The initiative to found an IEEE Chapter on Information Theory in the Benelux came from Edward C. van der Meulen, who had also been active in establishing the WIC in the early eighties. The chapter is active since 1990. Edward served as the first chairman of the chapter.
Since 1990 the chapter co-organizes, jointly with the WIC, an annual Symposium on Information Theory in the Benelux and an annual Midwinter-Meeting with tutorial presentations on a hot topic. Apart from that, the chapter organizes other activities. In 2009 it started a series of Van der Meulen Seminars.
